I had tried to make a large perch myself from manzanita branches, but it was never perfect and broke. This is a good play gym for the bird to hang out, play, eat, drink, etc., sturdy, easy to clean. Easy to assemble! The bars might be a little high for my GCC, but he has no problem with them, and it's good exercise! The bowls are easy to remove and clean. I used bungee cords of different sizes to make it more fun for him to get around, and got vet tape to make the ladder steps and sides easier for him to grip.
