I have tried placing regular rectangular scratchers on their ends to encourage them to use the scratcher instead, but have been unsuccessful in my attempts. The scratchers either get knocked out of the way, or fall over and out of their cardboard frames.
The L-shaped scratcher helped solve my problem. I can place the scratcher on the floor in front of one of the arms of the recliner and the cats can sit on the floor part to scratch the upper portion of the scratcher. I wasn't sure if it would work, but the cats figured it out after I added some catnip to the surface of the scratcher. I think a small starter bag of catnip should be included.
The scratcher arrived in several parts, along with assembly instructions, and a reversible screwdriver to help install the connecting pieces. It was a little tricky trying to keep the parts together while also starting the connecting pieces into the sides of the cardboard, so it might help to have another pair of hands to help hold it. There is a captive plastic ball that gets placed at the corner of the L, and a feather teaser that gets attached to a plastic ring at the top of the L.
One cat was interested in the ball, but as soon as she saw it wasn't going anywhere, she gave up. The feather got a lot more action. One of the cats likes to sit on it like it's his throne to keep the others from using it. However, they all have been using it to scratch on and have been leaving the furniture alone (for now), so I consider this a win for everyone.

I deducted one star becomes the instructions left out the parts where you add in the pieces for the toy ball and the feather on the side. I had to unscrew some of the pieces to add them back in. So, when you’re putting it together, and screwing in the longer part of the L scratcher. There’s a part to add in the little rubber part that holds the string. Go ahead and push it through the designated spot for it. And then the little toy ball goes into the corner space. Go ahead and add that into the space while you’re putting it together. I had to take apart and put back together which was frustrating.

I placed it at the foot of my bed, as that is where my cat loves to scratch at night. This gives him something more fun to scratch and play with! Time will tell to see how long it holds up, but it seems to be good for now.

That way during the shipping process nothing can get bent or broken. The product materials are sturdy and of good quality for the price point. The cardboard and plywood is sturdy enough for being a Scratcher with boards for shaping. Chagim L Shape Cat Scratcher materials are strong enough to not break during assembling. The scratcher materials are not flimsy enough to be torn to shreds within a day of my cats using. My cats were instantly intrigued by the sight of a box and they became even more fixated once they learned this was a scratcher toy. The shape of Chagim L Shape Cat Scratcher once assembled was not off putting to them. There is even a space for the included ball,making this scratcher an interactive toy of sorts. My youngest and most wild fur child immediately started using the bottom scratchers. For the top of the L shape scratcher pad, setting against a wall is the best bet. So as to keep the scratcher from falling over or forward when a cat uses the top scratcher.

It was to put some Temptations treats on it then he discovered the texture of it and said I think I’ll give that a try.
