Assembly was easy enough, well labeled and my husband and I didn't fight when we (mostly me) assembled it in just under 3 hours. Our toddler "helped" and the orange cat that wants to be outside screamed at us from the window the entire time.
If you want to use this in conjuction with a window, make sure you remove the wire from the piece in the middle on the back, but keep the frame as it is structurally necessary.
The instructions were a little unclear, but we studied them closely, counted and separated all the parts ahead of time, and it went together easily.
We pushed it against the wall for window access, so the back side was not needed. We modified those pieces to create a set of wall extensions to raise the entire thing about 18 inches. Then we used some of other remaining pieces to create wedge-shaped panels that would lift the back of the roof.
We also added a center full-width shelf and gave any unfinished pieces a coat of Thompson’s water seal. The color of the unit is a nice natural wood color. The areas we coated with Thompson’s are the pinkish-color. Some of the pink boards are new, and some of them are part of the kit that didn’t seem like they were coated. I really recommend coating the platforms and the inside of the roof at a minimum.
We modified the roof by screwing support panels inside the make it one big piece.
The construction is good, and the corners are a mortise and tenon type of connection (or something like that).
This was a great way to make a catio without starting from scratch, and the modifications make it a perfect fit around the window.
We spent about $80 on extras: lumber, extra deck screws, staples, some Thompson’s water seal were about all we needed to modify the structure (plus tools we already had, and we will be adding more bricks to help stabilize the floor)
