I will decorate it with some hanging vines and plants on top, will add photo when completed.
Our cats absolutely love it, I feel like this was a great deal and it’s held up well over a year now! We did have to replace the roof last year but that was very easy and we put corrugated metal, which was cheap and should last forever.
There were some cons, however. It was quite difficult to assemble. The instructions assert that you shouldn't use power tools, but having assembled it in just under three hours with a drill, I can't possibly imagine how they expect anyone to assemble it by hand (let alone in the thirty minutes predicted). Also, handling the wood dyed my hands orange! And the shelves are EXTREMELY flimsy. I hesitated to even install them, since I have a very large maine coon who I suspected might snap them in half. No breakages as of yet, but I fully anticipate having to replace the shelves with sturdier wood at some point in the future.
Lastly, a word of warning: if your cat attempts to climb the wire mesh, they WILL hurt themselves. One of my cats decided it would be a good idea to climb to one of the shelves instead of leaping from the ground, and he tore his claw quite badly. I'm not knocking any stars off because of it (he's a stupid cat, admittedly, and I can't blame the mesh for his silliness), I'm just warning you that it's a possibility. Make sure your kitties stay safe out there!
I put it up against the side of the house and made a cat door through the window. I also altered the shelves so she could get in and out. Cat loves going out and laying in the sun.
When the two boxes came, I was ready for the bright orange! It was NOT! It was a natural wood color that looked maybe clear stained...but anyway I took advise of other reviews and kept track of what panels were in what box (important as soon they all look alike). They have the screw holes made on certain sides and after I figured out what that meant it was fairly easy. We built a platform to set it on, and screwed the catio onto that to keep it stable. That brought it up 8 inches. We took the screen off the back middle panel and secured the catio around a window (took the screen off of that) so the cats have free access to go in as they please.
I researched catios and decided on this one, and we are very very pleased with it. I hope they offer it again, as it's a great addition for our cats!
As far as putting everything together, I was definitely not strong enough to just use a screwdriver, as recommended. There weren't pilot holes drilled everywhere screws needed to go, which I thought was weird and inconvenient.. but I'm not a carpenter, so maybe there is a logical reason? Anyway, I went ahead and drilled them in the places that I felt "needed" them and carefully screwed everything together so the wood wouldn't split.
I then slapped some paint on it so it wouldn't be so jarring to the eye... and so far the cats love it!
I did modify it slightly by removing some of the metal wire paneling so the cats could travel between the catio and inside the house.
All it needs now are some bird feeders and cat-friendly plants (catnip, lemongrass, etc)
Overall, the price can't be beat. The quality is expected for the price, but I do have to admit I'm much happier with it after spending a little extra for a better paint color.
